Weird:

Today has just been a weird kind of day.

Slept in, and voluntarily did so. Went in to town early and got my money from Superstore and then had lunch with my Mom. She gifted me a book entitled "Walking in This World: The Practical Art of Creativity" by Julia Cameron. It's from the "Artist's Way" series and I am really looking forward to cracking into it.

Haven't gotten a workout in yet, stretched a bit though. Might go for a walk after New Girl, which is hilarious by the way. The weather has been amazing for the end of September here. The trees are alive with colour and we have been hitting 25+ Celsius.

Day 15:

Made the nose a little big, but I tend to go that way with most of my drawings. I am thinking because I have always thought that I have a bigger nose.

Back to my business with my busy day, more work.
Always feels like catch up so I am aiming to get caught up and then stay that way.

Yum...

Just finished canning my newest batch of salsa, already hot in the throat so once it sits for a while... yum yum.

Day 13:

This was working with a loose basis of actual facial proportions. Still looks funny to me. But it was done kind of late at night.
Day 14:

Summoning Picasso. This was drawn and rotated. And surprisingly fun. Next time, I'll actually try some features upside down.

Two weeks down. (Phew)

Gotta head to bed, lunch with Mom tomorrow. And more gym time. :)

Weekends:

Weekends are horrible for me to post. I am never really near a computer long enough to post anything at all.

I went to visit my friend on Friday, and we made home made 'Snickers' bars. They are oh so sinful. I have been hit horribly with allergies to the harvest that is going on.

Today is the start of the change in my life. Went to the gym for 45 minutes of cardio, go me!

On to faces:

Day 11:

Sticking to bald but "trying" a male. Need to try to make the eyelashes not look so feminine. I can see a boy though.
Day 12:

This is a one-line drawing of a friend of mine. It actually has resemblance of him too.

Have to finish today's face and then I will post with Sunday's face as well.

What a day...

Doctors' appointment. Bought tickets to the Westman Wine Festival. (exciting!!) Baked 2 things. Pissed someone off on Facebook. Oh what fun life is.

My husband landed a job with CN in Maryfield SK. So we started looking at houses in Virden. There are a couple super cute ones. :) I am super pumped but scared of purchasing our first home...

Day 10:

I kind of went for a doll look. I almost left the eyes blank actually. Ha ha. It's so creepy looking but I really like it. I couldn't figure out how I wanted to do the hair though, so I could left the head naked.

I am feeling quite proud of myself so far. I am doing all of this with no comments or motivation from others. And I know that as much as everything I read says "go public" with your goals, right now, this feels right. I need to do this for myself first. Then when I have a good build up, I will share with Make Something and on my Facebook. Well it is on my Facebook, I just didn't announce it so someone would actually have to look at my info page and click on my website link.

Self:

Spent a nice afternoon, followed by evening, followed by night with my friend Chantel. It was quite a nice visit, but I definitely didn't get much done. Haha. I did get my face done though.

Day 9:

And it is literally my face.
I drew this picture from a photo off my blackberry.

My first self-portrait in a long time and I feel I did pretty well. I slightly screwed up the teeth while trying to shade them a bit. But I can see me in a way.

I am going to send it to my husband and see what he thinks of it - ha ha.

I will be back with my face for today after the premiere of Big Bang Theory and XFactor (let's hope no one else rocks out with his cock out - that was disturbing)

Catch up:

Here we go with post number 2.

Both of these look a little rushed but I am trying to keep my drawings relatively simple (ex. not spending hours/days on it) and I was driving for most of the past two days taking Chris to Saskatoon and then coming back today. Twelve hours in total of driving.

Day 6:

Went up to see my best friend's new son Tanner on Sunday (She loved the onesies - Whew!)
I got this done while Chris was getting a massage.

I am liking the mouth for sure. Quite proud of it. Couldn't quite figure out what to do with the hair and ran out of time in the end.

Day 7:

Spent most of Monday in the car. So I quickly ripped this one out before heading to bed.

Day 8:

Woop woop! Done 1 week.

This is a quick little pen doodle based on a picture of my youngest niece, Anna. My drawing does her no justice as she is absolutely adorable but you have to start somewhere with portraits right?

I am off to bed after far too many hours in a car; and far too many hours alone today.

Been away:

It's just such a whirlwind when Chris comes home. Never at home. And of course, I can't find a Blogger app for my blackberry. So I have not posted. I have drawn though. :)

Day 4:

This was done rather intoxicated actually. That is usually what happens when we venture out to one of the football coaches' places for a good Friday night.

Not bad considering the inebriation.

Day 5:

Just stuck to the strong half of the face for me to draw. Was still suffering from the night before.

When I first started really teaching myself how to draw, I mainly just stuck to drawing this half on the edge of the paper.

Will post 6 and 7 once I have pictures taken in a bit.

Fun:

Trying to get this done before I have to head out to grab my husband in town. Yay for him being home.

Day 3:

Got some inspiration from a book today, Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists by Carla Sonheim.

Using some ink with a dropper, quickly jot down some faces from photo reference.

I did a few and these are the ones I really liked.

I can definitely see myself using this technique again for some projects in the future.

Have to go pick up Chris now.

Two:

The second day.

I didn't even really think about drawing a face until I sat down to watch America's Next Top Model

Today consisted of pre-planning a Europe trip and struggling with batik onesies for my best friend's new son. Blah, I'll see what it looks like once it is dry. The black dye ended up a little purple-ish gray and the resistant areas didn't turn out as clear as I wanted them, but enough about that..

On to faces...

Day 2:

I just drew a face with a layout pencil and a sketch book.
I am not sure why I choose to leave the eyes blank, I just kind of liked the look and it felt as it should have been left that way.

This is a typical facial drawing from me. Start with the right (to the reader, left to the girl) eye and work out from there.

I would like work more on lips; I have had a juror in an art show mention that to me before as well.

The Start:

Here starts a year. Starting with a month of faces. I may continue with faces, (shrug) I may not. I am "facing" the day and starting something to strive for. (Sorry -ha)
My name is Nicole. I like colour, and pretty things. Imagination put into form; art, music, books, film and fashion; makes me happy inside, and makes me want to create things myself.
Art has always been the constant in my life and since I found 365: A Daily Creativity Journal by Noah Scalin, I have really wanted to complete a yearlong creativity journey.
So... Here we go:
Day 1:
Starting off a little easy, and having fun, with Harmony.
I love this application. The different settings are really fun to play around with.
I don't particularly like using the colours, but I love the look of just black.

Cheers to a year.. let's go.
